LaMovida Radio 1480 AM hosted a Radiothon to benefit the Catholic Multicultural Center (CMC) Dec. 14 that helped raised community awareness about the many great things that the center does and the many people it helps. By the end of the day, they had also raised $10,900 for CMC, located on Madison’s south side.
“It was a great event…. Very successful,” said CMC Director Andrew Russell. “This is the first time that we’ve partnered with La Movida Radio for a Radiothon. We had no idea what we were getting into but it turned out to be so much fun. It was well worth it. It was great seeing so many people get behind the center. It was very energizing to see the community support of the Catholic Multicultural Center.”
The CMC provides an empowering social ministry to meet the needs of the whole person, works to foster multicultural unity, and works to cultivate collaboration among the local Catholic Church, other faith-based organizations, and community entities. CMC serves a very diverse clientele of Black, white, Latino, Hmong, and most recently Bhutanese refugees.
The Radiothon got a boost from Sal Carranza, a Senior Academic Planner in the Office of Academic and Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin System and co-founder and chair of the Latino Education Council of Dane County.
Serving the south side Madison community since 1946, the Catholic Multicultural Center has been an important part of Madison for decades. The Center, now under the leadership of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, offers many services to the south side including a free meal program, food pantry, health program, numerous educational classes, and shower and laundry facilities.
“The money raised at the Radiothon will go toward our general fund and will help us to continue to do many of the great programs that we do,” Russell says. “It helps us to keep going and to provide more support for people that need it. We’re thankful for La Movida for helping us out and thankful to the community who overwhelmingly supported the Radiothon.”
