It’s celebration time for Today Not Tomorrow-Club TNT. It has been 10 years since its establishment as a 501c(3) non profit and 24 years since the first airing of Club TNT in 1989. Club TNT will celebrate in style with a gala event on Sept. 19 at the CUNA Mutual Foundation Conference Center, located at 5910 Mineral Point Road.
Included in the evening’s celebration will be the 2013 Fall Water Bearer Awards Presentation. The Water Bearer Award is given to honor those individuals who work tirelessly to enrich and energize the community, without seeking recognition, and often without others knowing of their works.
The “water bearer,” a biblical term, is the individual who each morning and night went to the well to bring water — the essence of life — back to the village and the family. The Village People Water Bearer Award is presented to individuals or groups committed to community in all aspects of life, a commitment that goes beyond work, and whose actions and deeds exemplify that commitment to supporting the Village and the family and giving, in essence, what the Village needs to continue and grow. Honorees are also supportive of the mission of Today Not Tomorrow Inc./Club TNT, sponsor of the Water Bearer Awards.
The 2013 slate of honorees are: Gladis Benavides, owner, Benavides Enterprises; JoAnn Kelly, director of Residential and Community Services, MG&E; Steve Lipton, Partner in Charge, nonprofit and government; Shahanna McKinley Baldon, Chief Diversity Officer of the Madison Metropolitan School District; Lisa Peyton-Caire, founder of the Foundation for Black Women's Wellness; Dr. Gloria Sarto, Sarto Research Group; and Wyman Winston, executive director of WHEDA.
The Water Bearer Awards ceremony has been held since 2003 and over the years the Water Bearer family has gotten pretty big with almost 100 total people honored. That long list of Water Bearers is quite diverse, too, in the ways they have contributed to the greater Madison community.
The Today Not Tomorrow – Club TNT anniversary celebration will be held Sept. 19 at the CUNA Mutual Foundation Conference Center, located at 5910 Mineral Point Road. The evening will begin at 5:30 pm, and end at 9 pm. It will include a silent auction, social hour with music, and cash bar; buffet style dinner, and dessert bar. The program will include a tribute to the work of Today Not Tomorrow-Club TNT. The emcee for the evening will be Ralph Cohen, marketing director of TVW, and the first host of Club TNT, back in the day — 1989 to 1992.
Tickets for the anniversary celebration are $50/individual, or $300 for a reserved table of 6. For more information, please contact Jeanne at (608)770-2049.
